How we got here…

Whoever said good things come in big packages, obviously didn’t get to step into this quaint exquisite heritage home. Small Space Interior design is one of our favourite aspects of the interior design process. This hidden gem in the Toronto beaches is a charming home that embodies the deep history and distinct personality woven into the fabric of this part of the city. It carries within its walls a tapestry of captivating stories, evident in architectural detail and classic finishes that get you from the moment you approach the door.

The Art of Living Large in Small Spaces

Smaller square footage spaces, like this heritage home, often pose intriguing challenges. How do we make the most of every square inch? What lighting strategies work best? Which colors create an illusion of spaciousness? How should we choose furniture and arrange rooms? What are innovative storage solutions? How do we treat windows to enhance the space? Can architectural features become functional art? And, importantly, how do we achieve all this within a budget?

Our approach is to unlock the full potential of these cozy spaces, striking a balance between utility and aesthetic appeal.

So what makes small space interior design interesting and how do we approach the creative process?

Transforming Petite Spaces into Charming Havens

  1. Understanding Your Space’s Soul
    • Assess Your Lifestyle: Reflect on how your space can cater to your needs – be it a cozy home office, a social corner, or a hobby nook.
    • Prioritize with Passion: Choose what truly matters for your everyday life.
  2. Measure and Dream
    • Embrace Your Space’s Dimensions: Carefully measure every aspect of your room.
    • Map Your Dream Space: Use sketching tools to visualize your ideal layout.
  3. Smart and Stylish Furnishing
    • Seek Multi-Functional Pieces: Look for furniture that serves multiple purposes.
    • Utilize Vertical Space: Explore options like tall shelves or loft beds.
  4. Innovative Storage Solutions
    • Discover Hidden Storage: Get creative with underutilized spaces.
    • Keep It Tidy: Use organizers and baskets for a neat and charming environment.
  5. Creating Flow and Freedom
    • Ensure Easy Movement: Arrange your furniture to facilitate effortless movement.
    • Open Layouts: Use open layouts with rugs and strategic furniture placement for defined areas.
  6. Playing with Light and Colors
    • Embrace Natural Light: Maximize light entry with soft curtains.
    • Choose Calming Colors: Opt for soft, neutral hues for a serene atmosphere.
  7. Reflective and Transparent Elements
    • Use Mirrors: They create an illusion of a larger space and brighten the room.
    • Choose Glass or Acrylic Furniture: These materials offer style without visual clutter.
  8. Tailor-Made Solutions
    • Personalize Your Space: Consider custom-built solutions for a perfect fit.
  9. Curate with Care
    • Practice Minimalism: Keep your space clutter-free and meaningful.
    • Gentle Decoration: Decorate subtly, keeping in mind that less is more.
  10. Adaptability
    • Design Flexibly: Have areas that can serve multiple purposes.
    • Embrace Change: Be open to rearranging as your needs evolve.
