5 SKIN CARE TIPS TO ADD TO YOUR REGIMEN

WHY A SKIN CARE REGIMEN IS IMPORTANT

I have been interested in taking care of my skin for as long as I can remember. My mother was always big on skin care and taught me, to always have a good cleanser and moisturizer. I automatically build up a regimen with the bare essentials.  It wasn’t until my mid twenties when I started learning the science behind great skin care. And why it was important to take care of my skin. Although Skin is the largest organ in your body,  it is the most neglected.

I get asked a lot about my skin and skin care routine and want to share some tips that I have learnt along the way and some of my favourite go to products that i use in skin care regimen.

 

Tip #1- UNDERSTAND DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HYDRATION AND MOISTURIZING.

Hydrating and Moisturizing are two different things although they work together to produce the same result=great skin. Even though moisturizers  have hydration properties, that does not mean that you are properly hydrating your skin. Hydration is the water to your skin cells, while moisturizing is the food to your skin.

Tip #2- KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE.

Knowing your skin type is the first step to building your routine. Each skin type will need to be moisturized and cleansed according to its needs.

Tip #3 – HYDRATE

Hydrating your skin essentially means that you are replenishing water into your skin cells. This enables elasticity and plumpness while making your skin bright and healthy. It is recommended to take at least 8 glasses a day. I tried this and i must say it is a tried and true recommendation. I currently do take 8-10 glasses a day but I am not going to lie. It took practice and eventually I found that my body acclimatized. My tip: Buy one or two water bottles like the one below. I got this bottle from Walmart. I had one in the office and one at home. Fill it up in the morning and drink it all through out the day. By the end of the day you would have had your 8 glasses. It takes time to complete 8 glasses a day. Be patient with yourself, soon enough it will be a habit that you will be happy you picked up.

Tip #4- LOAD UP ON FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

Yes this may be something that you hear a lot, and you might be skeptical.Fruits and vegetables provide antioxidants and vitamins and are knows to promote collagen. Collagen is a protein that gives your skin elasticity and strength preventing aging and wrinkles. As you get older your collagen production decreases. In order to combat early signs of aging load up on your fruits and vegetables.

Tip #5- NATURAL, PARABEN FREE PRODUCTS

Your natural body is built to work well with natural products/ ingredients. If you eat fruit and vegetables versus eating meat and dairy your body will react to eating meat and dairy differently as it would fruit and vegetables. In the same fashion so does your skin. Your skin will tend to gravitate to natural ingredients, easier and better than it would products that have man made ingredients.

 

BUILDING A SKIN CARE REGIMEN

STEP 1- CLEANSE

I like to cleanse both morning and night.Morning to prep my skin for my make up routine, and night to get rid of all the dirt that i picked up during the day and makeup. I use two cleansers for two seasons. I use the Seacret Cleansing Milk in the winter, and Mud Soap in the summer. Why…..

STEP 2- TONE

While cleansers are meant to take off dirt and residue from your day, you will find that sometimes it doesn’t take it all off. I like to follow up my cleanse with a toner. A toner does two things, restores the PH balance in your skin while getting rid of stubborn dirt and residue. The Toner that I currently is Seacret Toner…..

STEP 3- EXFOLIATE

Your skin sheds dead skin cells daily. Exfoliating your skin removed dead skin cells allowing new skin to grow. I exfoliate daily using the exfoliating pad below, as it works better than cotton pads . If using products like masks it is recommended that you exfoliate once to twice a week. I use a mask once a week.

STEP 4- MOISTURIZE

Once you have completely cleaned your skin then you feed it with your moisturizer. Moisturizers act as blocks to keep all the good stuff in your skin in. Moisturizers will vary depending on the type if skin you have. I am currently using the seacret intense moisturizer…

STEP 5- SERUM

I like to follow up my moisturizer with a serum. Serums are light weight moisturizers that penetrate deeper into your skin, making your skin firmer and smoother. Pairing your serum with your moisturizer creates a block while adds to the hydration of your skin. I am currently using the Seacret……

 

It took me some time to figure out the right products and what worked.  I also found that once you build your skin care regimen and have healthy skin, you will not need as much makeup. And when you do have make up on, the application will be flawless.I developed the habit of cleansing and moisturizing at an early age. Building a routine and regimen came naturally once i learned the science behind great skin care. It may take some time to build your own routine, but don’t give up.
